Every November, Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation come together to make the holiday season a little brighter for local families. Goodwill’s Annual Thanksgiving-in-a-Basket event is one of the ways we support individuals in our programs and our neighbors during a time that can feel especially challenging. This year’s gathering at our Roxbury headquarters continued a long tradition grounded in generosity, connection, and community support.
On the day of the event, Goodwill staff and volunteers worked together to assemble the baskets and prepare them for distribution. As families arrived, Patriots players, alumni, cheerleaders, and Pat Patriot joined Goodwill to welcome everyone, hand out the Thanksgiving baskets, and spend a few moments connecting with parents and kids. Families met the players who attended, took a quick photo, and left with everything they needed for a holiday meal. The players then carried the baskets outside and walked with families to their cars — a small gesture that added warmth and excitement to the experience.
A Holiday Meal Made Possible by Community Support
This year, Goodwill and the Patriots Foundation distributed 200 Thanksgiving baskets, each filled with classic holiday staples — turkeys, stuffing, vegetables, potatoes, pies, coffee gift cards, and more — all donated by local businesses and community partners. These contributions help families enjoy a holiday meal without added financial strain, especially as grocery prices continue to rise.
Many of the households who attend are connected to Goodwill’s job training programs and career services, including individuals with developmental disabilities. For them, receiving a basket offers timely support and a reminder that their community is here for them during the holiday season.
Continuing a Tradition That Brings People Together
Thanksgiving-in-a-Basket is meaningful because it brings together families, volunteers, partners, and staff for a shared purpose. The Patriots Foundation’s involvement adds excitement to the day, while the focus remains on Goodwill’s commitment to supporting people who have barriers to employment
From all of us at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, we are grateful to everyone who supports our mission in every season. We hope you and your loved ones had a warm, safe, and happy Thanksgiving.
