College Dorm Clean Out
At Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, we are happy to receive nearly everything college students drop off as they leave town each spring. In fact, we are so excited to be the go-to donation site for this annual migration that we’ve established formal relationships with local universities. But, more on that subject later.
Spring is traditionally a strong season for donations for our 14 retail stores throughout Massachusetts. Think spring cleaning and you get the idea.
No matter what your ideal color palette refresh might be, it’s easy to accent any room with a little creative thrifting.
Goodwill’s College Partnership: “Goodwill Not Landfill.”
We are proud of our relationships with local colleges. For the past 13 years, we’ve helped Boston University students conveniently and easily donate gently used items without having to leave their dorms. In 2022, this collaboration yielded 50 tons of material for our stores. This year, we hope to return to pre-pandemic levels when our generous Boston University students donated upwards of 70 tons each spring. To kick off our “Goodwill Not Landfill” campaign, we deliver blue Goodwill bins to BU’s 17 college dorm locations, rotating them out as they are filled. This year, our “bin drops” begin April 27th – giving students a chance to clean out earlier than usual!
We are always excited to receive such useful items as:
- Small desks/chairs/table lamps
- Mini-fridges/ microwaves/small appliances
- Decorations
- Clothing and outerwear – of course!
- College memorabilia — After all, in August, a fresh new group of students will visit our stores. Give them the best you’ve got!
We cannot accept:
- Food.
- Heavily used linens
- Pillows
- Mattress toppers
- Chemicals or cleaning supplies
