Employer Solutions: Career-Focused Job Training

For over 100 years, Goodwill has developed and implemented job training programs targeted to meet the needs of industry sectors. Our training programs are the foundation of the innovative workforce solutions we offer to he business community. Goodwill’s business-focused, results-oriented training programs ensure that job candidates coming from Goodwill are trained, qualified, and ready for work.

Goodwill’s training programs are built upon:

  • Continuous evaluation of the needs and requirements of our business partners
  • Intensive job readiness and literacy skills evaluation and training
  • Long-term post-placement support

Retail Training
Goodwill offers two Retail Training programs: Retail Skills Training and First Step. Retail Skills Training places more emphasis on the back end of retail operations by providing program participants with training and experience in inspecting, sorting, and tagging newly donated clothing and goods. Goodwill's First Step retail program focuses on the front end of retail by providing program participants with training and experience in customer service and sales to prepare them for work as sales associates in retail stores.

Office and Computer Skills Training
Step Up is a well-established program that provides comprehensive computer and office skills training, and a job placement in two career tracks: general office and accounting/bookkeeping. The program runs for four months and meets for 35 hours per week.

Food Services
Training
Goodwill’s on-site program is structured around eight competency-based training modules, including dishwashing, salad preparation, grill cooking and deli. Each module builds upon the others, giving trainees a solid background for employment in restaurants, cafeterias, commercial bakeries and other businesses.

Building and Property Maintenance Services
Training
On- and off-site training and transitional employment provide on-the-job training and instruction in basic techniques such as daily and periodic cleaning, floor and carpet care, meeting/banquet set-up, and grounds maintenance. Individual and group instruction is provided, including competency-based skills training targeted to the needs of our corporate partners.
